Illamasqua Look Fantastic eye quad

I have tried a very limited number of things from Illamasqua it is a brand I am yet to really make an opinion on fully, although it has some amazing reviews and a few cult stand outs. I got this quad in the Look Fantastic advent calendar, and although it isn't one you can buy yourself now, I though it would be a great insight into the shadows themselves and if I feel I would invest in another palette based on this one I have tried.

The palette is the signature Illamasqua packaging with the gloss black finish, the raised logo on the lid and the curved in sides on the product. The packaging is really lovely and is iconic to the brand, which makes it really lovely as it gives it a distinct look that you can automatically pick out. I really like the packaging, although I do find it slightly bulkier than it perhaps needs to be, but it isn't enough to bother me.

The four colours within the palette are really nice neutral colours which is so refreshing as they are ones I know I could use daily and get a lot of wear out of, rather than being given bright colours for instance. Clockwise from top left there is a matte cream nude shade perfect for a natural was of colour on the lid or a brow bone highlight. Next a shimmering bronze brown adds a pop of shimmer to the palette that works beautifully in the crease or outer V to deepen the eye look, or on the lid if you want a deeper lid look. I was a bit intimidated by the orange-rust tone shade in the bottom right hand corner, but it looked quite nice on my skin tone and didn't look too red, I think I need to wear a black liner on my upper lash line to carry this off on the eye, but a lovely colour that pushes me out my comfort zone. Lastly, a neutral slightly warmer toned brown, this is a lovely colour, I mainly use this to sculpt out the crease, use the light shade all over the lid and then blend them together in the crease before deepening the outer edges with the shimmer colour. I can use this as a crease colour for a warmer look and know I will get great definition and shape with minimal work.

The colours, as you can see above have incredible pigmentation and look great on the skin. I wouldn't ever be without my eye primer, so I will always use that when I test eye make up, but this worked so well over my beloved Urban Decay eye primer. The colours blended seamlessly, stayed on the eye all day showing no signs of wear and were so easy to work with in general.

At £34 the Illamasqua palettes are more on the pricier side of the make up from and I would say come in on the high end side of the scale. Compared with other palettes you can get more shadows for the same or slightly more money, but I think the quality and status of Illamasqua does warrant the price in many ways. I also think the palettes you can chose from, this one isn't available but there are similar neutral shades available, only need the four shades to create a beautiful everyday look, or one for a special occasion. Most of them can also be used as day to night with you being able to create a look with two or three colours and use the other shade to deepen the look and add drama for an evening look.

If I was to buy another palette from Illamasqua, there is a good chance I will as I really like this one, I would need to see them in person to have a play with the colours and decided which one would be for me, as I have a lot of neutral eye shadows and I aim to not have too many that are similar or the same in tone just to have as much variety as possible. I really think these are great and I recommend you have a swatch if you pass a counter as I don't think you will be disappointed in the quality!
